Arrival
Once your child's flight has landed in the UK they will need to go through Passport Control and then collect their luggage. Once they have their luggage your child should follow the signs through Customs to the Exit/Arrivals Hall. In the Arrivals Hall your child should look for the New Forest Language School Representative / taxi driver or host family member who will be holding a New Forest Language School sign displaying your child's name.
Departure
On departure your child will be taken by their host family or a New Forest Language representative / taxi driver to their check-in desk. Should your child be an unaccompanied minor they will be helped with check-in and taken to the designated office or representative for unaccompanied minors.
Online Check-in
Some airlines require online check-in prior to departure to guarantee a flight booking. It is the parents' responsibility to check the policy with the airline. Where online check-in is offered as an option, we recommend that parents do the online check-in for arrival and departure, as this can save time and possible surcharges. If this is possible, any registration documents, E-tickets or boarding passes should be given to the child prior to travelling to the UK. If this is not possible, we can assist with printing of any required documents if they are emailed to the office during your child's stay.
Unaccompanied Minor
If your child is flying to the UK without a parent or guardian you can request unaccompanied minor assistance directly from the airline. Some airlines will not accept child travellers under the age of 12 without also booking the unaccompanied minor service. We recommend you check the airline's policy about child travellers in advance of the date of travel. Where the unaccompanied service is booked the airline will usually request the details of the person who will be collecting the child at the airport and New Forest Language School will provide you with this information.
On occasion there may be a change of the named person given to the airline for the unaccompanied minor assistance. If this is the case we will always arrange for another New Forest Language School representative to meet your child and the original named person will sign a Letter of Authorisation as prove to the airline that the other named person may collect your child.
Documentation
Prior to arrival all students will be issued with a New Forest Language School Identity Card with emergency contact numbers as well as a Letter of Consent to travel which needs to be signed by a parent. We also recommend that you check with your airline and local police about whether your child will need any official documentation to leave the country without being accompanied by a parent or guardian.
